Thuraya Service includes voice, fax, data, and Short Message Service (SMS) using small, handsets with integrated Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) and Global Positioning Service (GPS) capabilities. Thuraya is a regional mobile satellite service system using geo-synchronous satellites providing border to border coverage to more than 110 countries in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia (EMEA) along with extensive coverage into regional waterways. The innovative combination of satellite, GSM and GPS services make Thuraya one of the most versatile and flexible handheld satellite phone systems available. Service Features - Voice - Send and receive calls via Thuraya's single gateway, GSM quality voice service. Calls initiated from terrestrial lines in over 200 countries are received by the Thuraya handset in Thuraya or GSM coverage areas.
- Fax - Send and receive Group 3 fax communications at rates of 2.4, 4.8 or 9.6 kbps. Faxes may originate from any Group 3 compatible fax or Data Terminal Equipment (DTE) connected via the data cable.
- Data - Send or receive asynchronous data at rates up to 9.6 kbps without additional software or data kits. A data cable for connection to PC or other DTE is required.
- GSM - Allows users to automatically switch to a mobile wireless network when outside Thuraya's satellite coverage area.
- GPS - Location determination within 100 meters accuracy for handheld navigation, as well as navigation and location tracking when loaded into PC-based mapping software. A data cable is required for PC-based navigation applications.
- SMS - Send and receive short messages in English, Italian, French and German. SMS may be used for text messaging and for a variety of additional features including billing inquiries, sending and receiving GPS coordinates, access to prayer time services, Web-based SMS, and direct Internet access.

Thuraya Value Added Services - SMS Alerts - Receive Business & Financial News, Breaking and Political News, Sports alerts including football, cricket, motor racing, and the New AlJazeera SMS information service providing news and sports in English/ Arabic.
- Telephony Services - Thuraya's service includes cellular network features, including: Voice Mail, Caller Line Identity Presentation (CLIP), Call Forwarding, Call Waiting, Call Hold, Call Barring, Call Transfer and Conference Calling.
